In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS)

IHSS provides people who are blind, disabled, or over the age of 65 with personal assistance and in-home support services so they can remain in their homes or maintain employment safely. Services range from assistance with household chores to personal care and paramedical services. The program is often seen as an alternative to assisted living or nursing facilities.

The IHSS program is once again at great risk. Recent budget cuts to the program could result in reductions to vital service hours for consumers or even losing IHSS altogether. The lawsuit against the state has temporarily prevented this, but the possibility still exists. Training requirements, oppressive criminal background checks, and fingerprinting now mandated for all careproviders will reduce the workforce even further.  Workers will have to pay their own costs for these requirements.

We would like consumers and providers both to sign up for our forum in order to share personal stories of how these changes have affected you.
