Labor Issues

For every homecare recipient, there is at least one dedicated, hard-working careprovider. Unfortunately, the people doing this important work are not always paid wages that represent the value of the work they do. We support collective bargaining to obtain a living wage and health care benefits for the hundreds of thousands who provide care to California's seniors and people with disabilities.

But the realm of homecare worker unions has grown increasingly tense and rancorous in the last year. Efforts to stifle the voices and opinions of workers, as well as their right to be represented by a union of their choice, represent a troubling atmosphere. Further, it is absurd to state the opinion that these issues are merely internal and have no effect on consumers. The partnership between consumers and workers that allowed unionization is always relevant, whether times are easy or hard. Attempts to restrict dialogue on controversial issues only increase tension and frustration.

We support the efforts of all homecare unions. But we abhor the bullying that has taken place, and intend to provide access to media articles documenting recent events that exhibit it. Links to access specific websites for entities representing homecare workers appear on the right of this page.
